The Blender Winner

April 6, 2011

Sometimes the best part of a vacation or project is the dreaming. Can’t tell you how much I enjoyed hearing about all your summertime aspirations. Here at Salad in a Jar, we are looking forward to a trip to Israel in a few months. If you’ve been there and have some advice, we’re all ears.

I’m sorry my name isn’t Oprah because I would delight in giving every one of you…and you…and you..a new blender. Picking one person is just too painful. Insurance man to the rescue! Wearing a blindfold, he mixed and stirred the pile of comments before drawing “Katie” who wrote:  “Camping, swimming, playing, running, soccer, scouts, birthdays, lots of family time.  I can’t wait!  And I have been CRAVING Lemon Bars this week.  I almost broke down and bought one at a bakery yesterday, but didn’t want to be disappointed.  This home-made version will be much better!”

Congratulations Katie.  Email me your address and the color you prefer. You are going to love your new blender!

Meanwhile, sounds like I better start working on some fresh veggie recipes for all you gardeners.  But first, I have a few desserts to share considering Easter dinner is on the horizon.

Next up?  Chocolate and Vanilla Angel Food Cake with “Dipped Cone” Icing. You don’t want to miss it. And this time, no blender required.

I’ve never been to Israel, but can’t wait to go. My husband on the other hand is a veteran world traveler and has vacationed there, or flown in and out with his airline. He says the most obvious advantage is getting a top notch tour guide and the smallest group possible. You can ask lots of questions and enjoy your visit without spending hours in line for meals, bathrooms, tickets, etc. Unfortunately, safety has always been an issue and is getting more and more important with every passing day. Take any security warnings from your tour leader seriously, be alert and aware, and remind each other not to wander off alone too often. Beyond that, trust in God and enjoy. My husband is a salad addict, so he loved being able to have fresh produce and citrus with every meal, plain or very simply dressed with fresh pressed olive oil and an amazing array of different vinegars and spices. Excellent local wines from smaller mom and pop vineyards are plentiful and cheap, as are European imports. The “natives” were very friendly and helpful and we still keep in touch with people he’s met while traveling. You probably already know you are going to have a most incredible experience. You have our prayers and best wishes!
